Bollards are the cheapest insurance a commercial property has. One vehicle into a storefront, a gas meter, or a dock door costs dramatically more than the posts that would have stopped it. We install safety bollards across the Houston area for retail, industrial, warehouse, and multi-site facility clients, including work for large facility operators. Whether we core drill into your existing slab or pour new footings depends on what's already there and what the bollard has to stop.

Where bollards go

Storefronts and glass: the front of a retail space is the most common bollard job we do. Parking stalls that face the building, drive-thru lanes, and any glass line a vehicle could reach.

Loading docks and warehouses: dock door frames, dock levelers, and the corners forklifts clip. Column protection inside the warehouse where racking and structure meet traffic.

Equipment and utilities: gas meters, electrical panels, backflow preventers, transformers, generators, fire risers, air handlers. Insurers and utilities often require protection on these.

Pedestrian areas: sidewalk edges, entry paths, patio seating, ADA routes where traffic runs close.

Parking and traffic control: islands, curb ends, corners that get hit repeatedly.

Core drill or new footing

Both are standard, and which one is right depends on the site.

Core drilling sets the bollard into existing concrete without tearing up the slab. It's faster, less disruptive, and usually the right call for retail and occupied properties where you can't shut down the parking lot. It requires that the existing slab is thick and sound enough to hold.

New footings mean excavating and pouring a concrete foundation for each post. Deeper, more resistance to impact, and the right answer when the existing slab is thin or damaged, when the bollard has to stop a heavier vehicle, or when there's no concrete there to begin with.

Either way, the bollards get filled with concrete and capped or sleeved. An empty pipe bends and stays bent. A filled one takes the hit.

What we ask before quoting

How many, and where. Per-bollard cost drops significantly with quantity - a run of twelve prices very differently than one.

What it needs to stop. A post keeping shopping carts off a walkway is a different spec than one protecting a gas meter from a delivery truck.

What's under the slab. Utility locates matter. Core drilling into a conduit or a post-tension cable is an expensive mistake, and we check before we cut.

Removable or fixed. Some locations need bollards that come out for access - fire lanes, delivery routes, seasonal layouts.

Site access and hours. Retail and occupied facilities often need the work done after hours or in phases so the lot stays usable. We work around operating hours.

Multi-site and facility work

What bollard work costs

Bollard pricing is driven by count, diameter and wall thickness of the pipe, core drill versus new footing, whether the site needs utility locates and traffic control, and whether the work has to happen after hours. Because those variables swing the number so widely, we quote per site rather than publishing a per-post price. Can you install bollards without tearing up my parking lot?

Usually yes. Core drilling sets the post into the existing slab with minimal disruption - a clean cut, the bollard set and grouted, and the lot back in service. It depends on your slab being thick and sound enough, which we check first.

How deep do bollards need to be set?

It depends on what the bollard is protecting and what it has to stop. A post shielding a walkway from low-speed traffic is specified differently than one protecting a gas meter from a truck. We spec to the actual exposure rather than defaulting to one depth.

Do you fill the bollards with concrete?

Yes. An unfilled pipe deforms on impact and stays deformed. Filled bollards absorb the hit and are far more likely to be reusable afterward.

Can you do removable bollards?

Yes. Removable posts make sense for fire lanes, delivery access, and layouts that change seasonally.

Do you work after hours so we don't close the lot?

Yes. Retail and occupied facilities usually need it that way, and we schedule around operating hours.
